Going Bonkers Over Bamboo!

Going Bonkers Over Bamboo!
Time to go bonkers over bamboo floors!

We all know that the world is going green, but well, the irony is that there is still need to use the same things that humankind is busy protecting. Construction material like wood has been the major cause of diminishing forests especially in third world countries. When it comes to flooring, the use of the now almost extinct oak tree has been rampant because of the need for hard floors. That is where environmentalists came in and offered their help and gave a substitute used all over Japan and other countries in the East for construction of houses and other accessories that they have needed in the past. A bamboo floor is a refreshing break from traditional floors, it is versatile, and turns every wood vanish color look like its natural color. For nature lovers, a bamboo floor brings in the element of earth and makes them feel comfortable in their own houses. It is kind to the feet if treated well; it is long lasting and very beautiful. How do you keep it this way over the years?

  • Water

It is essential to keep your bamboo floor clear of water and to dry any spills completely. This is because bamboo absorbs water and can wilt over time. It can also warp and become moldy over time. This creates a different problem altogether because some types of mold can cause respiratory problems among other illnesses. This means that you should not install bamboo floors in rooms where running water is likely to get to the floor, places such as the kitchen, bathroom and where there are water faucets or sinks. However, there is a special type of bamboo that is treated to be resistant to water up to some point.

  • Shine

Many people find floor polishing very tedious, however the end result after the first polish keeps them on the floor. Polishing your bamboo rejuvenates not only the floor but also the whole room. You end up with a shine that is just amazing. The only thing you should not is to never wax the bamboo, sweep, and wipe with dry cloth or a damp mop or duster. This is enough to rejuvenate the bamboo floor, which makes it easy to maintain.

  • Dealing with the furniture

When it comes to protecting your bamboo floor from your furniture, it is important to remember the following:

  • Never drag heavy furniture on the bamboo floor to avoid breakage or splintering.
  • Use soft material on the feet of the furniture to avoid scratched on the floor. These will help you to ensure that the weight of the furniture is kind to the floor.
  • Make sure that when rearranging your house, you make sure that you carry the furniture gently to avoid a lot of pressure on the floors. The type of subfloor will determine the extent of the damage, it is therefore essential to ensure that the subfloors are also well installed.

Why bamboo rocks

  • It is cheap but yields beautiful results.
  • It is long lasting.
  • It blends well with every room regardless of the theme.
  • Gives the house a rustic and natural feel.
