What does bathroom tile cleaning involve?

A bathroom cleaning routine involves cleaning all the tiles wherever they are installed and removing things such as mildew, soap scum, mold and the likes that might have accumulated over time. And because the bathroom is one of the most used rooms in a home, it mostly remains damp and thus the tiles tend to get quite dirty as fast as they are cleaned.

Here are some steps to clean and disinfect your bathroom tiles and at the time removing soap scum, mold and mildew accumulation on them.

1. Disinfect the tiles: This is the first bathroom tile cleaning step and it involves disinfecting them with an appropriate disinfectant. This directly kills bacteria and germs that could have been lurking there, waiting for a victim to affect or infect. Using a cleaning sponge or a squeegee and a disinfectant applying assistant, spray the tiles and then wipe them clean. Not only will this remove dust accumulation on them, it will also disinfect them as well.

2. Mold and mildew removal: Mildew and mold accumulate on bathroom tiles as a result of the constant dampness in there. To remove mildew and mold on your bathroom tiles, simply use an equally mixed proportion of a solution of bleach and water. This mixture should duly be sprayed on the mold and mildew affected areas. The sprayed liquid solution should be left to stand for duration of approximately half an hour and then sponged or scrubbed off the tiled surface.

On the other hand, mildew and mold on tiles made of ceramic should be treated differently from the others of the same sorts. You will need to either utilize a commercial mold and mildew remover or make a homemade removing solution of a mix of one cup of ammonia, a quarter cup of baking soda, a half cup of vinegar with a gallon of clean but plain warm water. Any of these mixtures should be applied to the tiles with a sponge and then the surface rinsed with clean plain fresh water. Remember to wear appropriate protective rubber glove gear when doing so.

3. Soap scum removal from bathroom tiles: Because the bathroom tiles routinely experiences a lot of water and soap, things such as soap scum is apt to build up. Luckily, you can prevent this accumulation by waxing the tiled surfaces. However, this should be done after the normal cleaning of the tiles. Wax keeps the tiles shiny, clean and free from soap scum accumulation.
