How to Care for Granite Flooring

How to Care for Granite Flooring

It may come as a bit of a surprise but granite can be used on San Diego floors as well as worktops. It’s true granite is usually associated with the surfaces in kitchens or bathrooms, but there is no reason why it cannot be used on floors too. Granite is a very hard surface and looks wonderfully stylish and sophisticated, although it is quite expensive.

Granite floors as a San Diego flooring option.

That said, granite is a stone that will wear and wear almost until infinity. It keeps its good looks for a long, long time when looked after properly, so although it may be an expensive outlay, it can more than pay for itself over the years. So, exactly how do you care for your granite floor from San Diego floors? Here is a very brief but effective guide to help you.

Regular inspections can save dollars

You should inspect your granite floor regularly. By that I mean really look at it closely, not just spread a cursory glance over it. You will need to ensure the tiling grout is firm and holding the tile firmly in place If not, arrange to replace it immediately as failure to do so could result in the tile becoming chipped or cracked as it will not lay straight.

Clean up spills straight away

It might go without saying that you should clear away any spills or messes immediately, but I’ll say it anyway. If you leave spills on the surface of the tile they can cause discoloration, which may make the granite tile look out of place with the rest of the San Diego floors.

Clean up debris and dirt regularly

You don’t have to have a brush continually attached to your hand, but you should brush up any dirt or debris regularly and don’t allow it to be ground into the tile. Granite can scratch quite easily, even with a resistant surface applied to it, so any little stones that stick to the sole of your boot can cause damage if you do not pay attention. Removing dirt and debris every day can prevent this problem. In fact removing your shoes at the door and wearing slippers in the house would be even better for all your San Diego floors.

Use proper cleaning agents

You can remove mild stains or light surface dirt with simple soapy water but more ingrained or resistant stains will need a proper cleaning agent. You may be tempted to clean your granite tiles with detergents you already have in the home, or add bleach to water to clean them, but you should not do this as this can cause irreparable damage and remove the top layer of the stone. You will need to buy a detergent that is specially designed to care for your granite tiles and this will also give you the best results. When you buy your granite tiles you will be advised of the best way to care for them to ensure long-lasting results, but if you are in any doubt at all, you can consult specialists at San Diego floors and they will always be happy to help.
