A lot of homeowners today have been wondering if there is such a thing as an easy clean, no repairs and low maintenance bathroom. Many different suggestions for this sort of a bathroom have come up from varied sources. And as it is, when initially designing a bathroom from scratch, there are a number of considerations to make with the two most important aspects being your specific budget and the actual room dimensions. These two apart, we will focus on the best ways to get an easy to clean, no repairs and thus low maintenance bathroom but that is still modern, attractive and comfortable at that.
Why a low maintenance bathroom?
Basically, a low maintenance bathroom with appropriately fitted flooring and walls is ideal for a busy guest house or a family house. When it comes to a rented apartment or house, the tenants rarely spend enough time paying attention to small details in their bathroom or even cleaning them. This being the case, the best sorts of bathrooms to install in such places are the fully tiled types as these are easy to clean and thus won’t demand a lot of personal attention.
Low maintenance bathrooms and shower cubicles
Recently, it has become quite fashionable to extensively use tiles on the floors and walls in different parts of a house, with the bathroom being the best candidate. This is for a good reason – having a room extensively tiled is an expensive undertaking due to things such as the cost of the tiles themselves, grout, labor and adhesive and hence the preferences to have them fitted on bathroom walls and floors.
Though tiles are quite easy to wipe clean, they are not all that low maintenance. The problem mainly is that grout used in their installation gets grubby looking after some time taking quite a lot effort to have the tiles effectively cleaned. This partly one of the reasons why you need to keep tiles to the minimum in the houses rented out to tenants. Repairing cracked tiles, renewing the grout and cleaning them can be quite time consuming and costly if left to the tenants.
Waterproof wall panels in place of tiles
To avoid grout maintenance issues and possible problems when water gets trapped behind the tiles, you may want to consider utilizing waterproof wall panels in place of the tiles. Waterproof wall panels are manufactured by many different manufacturers and thus they come in many different brands that can be opted for. Some of the brands you can opt for include Mermaid, Multipanel (Grant Westfield), Respatex and many others.
When installing the said waterproof wall panels, it is important to ensure that the shower tray is secured firmly in position. Note that the silicon seal around the tray might be the weak points giving way to leaks. To avoid this, you may want to consider installing a complete shower pod as a great shower cubicle alternative, the choice is all yours.
All in all, if you really want an easy to maintain bathroom at your place, then you might want to consider a bathroom which has vinyl surfaces. This covering material is easy to replace and comes cheaply compared to other flooring alternatives that are available in the market today. Although it is possible to have a low maintenance tiled bathroom, there is no such thing as a no-maintenance variety!
