The Effect Of Cleaning Methods On Bamboo Floors

Clean Bamboo Floors 3 Simple Steps for Installing Bamboo Flooring
The effects of cleaning methods on bamboo.

Because of their eco-friendly nature, durability, unique texture, color and resilience, bamboo floors are a common choice among many homeowners today. Due to their widespread use, it is important to know how best to clean bamboo floors and also especially how bamboo floors are affected by cleaning agents.

Water: For bamboo floors, less is best when it comes to using water as a cleaning agent. Water can cause the boards to swell and warp if allowed to seep into the flooring. Steam cleaning is also not advisable for Clean Bamboo Floors.

Brushes: Using a stiff or hard brush to scrub bamboo floors can lead to scratching and further damaging your bamboo floor. It is best to use a soft cloth, use a cleaning agent designed for Clean Bamboo Floors to moisten the cleaning cloth. You can also opt for electrostatic mop or a soft microfiber mop.

Abrasives: Bamboo floors can be corroded by abrasive detergents. It is best to use PH balanced cleaning agents and even when this are used, they should be applied sparingly using a spray bottle so that no liquids are left pooling on your floor as this is damaging to the bamboo floor.

Wax: Avoid waxing bamboo floors. Applying wax to a bamboo floor constrains you to having to use wax to coat your floor subsequently. It will require regular buffing done with expensive machinery. Instead of waxing bamboo floors, a urethane finish is widely accepted as the best alternative to waxing. The downside of this is that urethane cannot be applied over a previous wax coating, which gives another reason not to use wax. Also using wax to coat a bamboo floor results in dirt accumulating in places where the wax has lumped together.

Soap: Oil soap and oil soap products should not be used on bamboo floors. Clean Bamboo Floors with the soap causes the peeling off of the bamboos protective layer. Instead of using these soaps, use floor cleaners with a balanced PH.

Vacuum cleaning: It is recommended that you vacuum clean your floor at least once in two months. All the same, using a vacuum cleaner with a beater bar as this will damage your floor. Use a floor tool while avoiding using the vacuums solid head directly on the floor.

Floor cleansers: There are several Clean Bamboo Floors available in the market. Most are designed to be used on hardwood floors. Only use this on bamboo floors if you are sure that the product does not contain any alkali and wax.

You can extend the lifespan of your bamboo floor by minimizing the dirt it is exposed to and thus the number of times you will have to clean it. When you have guests, you can ask them to remove their shoes when entering your house. This will reduce the amount of dust particles that can be brought in by people’s shoes. This dust leads to scratching and denting of your bamboo floor finishing. Make a practice of dry mopping, sweeping and vacuuming the floor regularly.
